Do you know the history of Archie the bear?
When the Lodi Arch was originally built in 1907, our friend Archie wasn’t part of the plan.
In 1909, the Stockton chapter of the Native Sons of the Golden West built Archie to decorate their Admission Day parade float. After the parade, the Lodi chapter got into some hijinks and liberated Archie, placing him atop the Lodi Arch in the middle of the night where he’s been ever since.
Artists and community members have given Archie many glow-ups throughout the years, we’re so glad to see him golden and shining in Downtown Lodi! ✨
